Cloud Pattern Ring

925 sterling silver, open band

In stock, ships in 1-2 days

A raised scroll of cloud and thunder patterns running the length of an open band. The motif is taken from the lacquerware on an eighteenth-century desk.

Because the band is open, it takes up the exact size of your finger rather than the nearest half-size. Wear it on any finger, including the thumb.

The pattern is cut rather than stamped, so the scroll has an undercut edge that catches light from the side.

What it means

Cloud and Thunder

The scrolling cloud pattern — 云纹 — is among the oldest motifs in Chinese decorative art, appearing on bronze vessels over two thousand years ago. Its layered curves are read as the moment before rain: the point where pressure in the sky finally gives way to something that makes things grow.
